Logitech Projector
Project goals
The goal of this form study project was to pick an electronic device and research its design language and design a product to seamlessly fit into their portfolio.
This was a solo project that spanned 4 weeks. I was under the guidance of Sam Aquillano.
Research
Logitech has been a consumer electronics manufacture since day one. They have a wide variety of product offerings for the general public and the enterprise. I noticed that Logitech made presentation tools, speakers and other devices that communicate with computers. One gap in their portfolio was a projector, they had the handheld slide changer and the computer mice but no projectors. My new challenge was to design a projector to fit Logitech portfolio.
Before I could start designing I needed to understand Logitech design language. For their stand alone products, they are mostly geometric in form with subtle color details and tight fillets.
Color : black with silver highlights
Graphics : white on black screen and stamped on the form
Finish : gloss and satin
Proportion : balanced
Form : geometric, tapered and angled
Ideation
I started on paper to get a few ideas out. I wanted the projector to work with mobile and tablet devices. Initially I was going to rely on the 32 pin connector but by leveraging wireless technology, the projector could remain relevant as the mobile devices developed.
I moved the digital sketching so that could refine the details and apply Logitech's design language. By moving the air vents underneath the body it allowed the form to remain clean and simple.
Concept
With the air vents located under the body the exterior form remained clean. A soft touch panel on the top of the body provided a grip surface for a tablet or phone. The large focus wheel in the back is located between the zoom and brightness controls.
